What Is The Barracuda Swim Team At British Swim School Hudson Waterfront?

Barracuda is the next step after your swimmer has mastered all of the goals for our shark 2 level and is serious about wanting to be a better athlete. Barracuda is a non-competitive swim team that will prepare your child to join a real, competition team. In Barracuda, we teach your child to swim distances and increase their speed and endurance, while continuing to refine their skills. Barracudas practice for 1 hour, which is the same amount of time that most competitive Club teams swim, and is the perfect environment to ease your swimmer into that big transition. This elite club will push and challenge your swimmer to be the best that they can. Our coaches are some of our best stroke development instructors and have a passion for getting their swimmers to be the best athlete they can be.

What are the benefits of being a Barracuda?

Our Head coach Derain and hand picked instructors have designed workouts for our barracuda sessions that are created to:

  • Build up your swimmer’s endurance – Swimming for 60 minutes is not an easy workout. Your swimmer will experience long distance workouts and will learn how to pace themselves when given the challenge. Our Barracuda practices are held at a competition sized pool, so your swimmer will get to experience longer distance swimming.
  • Perfect environment to increase your swimmer’s technique – Our Barracuda practices are held at the perfect location to teach diving off of REAL diving blocks (this is something that none of our other pools offer!). Due to the extended time, our swimmers also have more time to apply the corrections given by their coach.
  • Increases your swimmer’s speed – Swimmers on Barracuda will participate in monthly “swim meets”. They will be competing against themselves and will be challenged to beat their times each month.
  • Perfect club environment – Our Dickinson High School location is the ideal place to have a Barracuda team. It is the perfect size, temperature, and atmosphere to run a club team. The pool is 25 yards long with 5 lane lines and diving blocks. The temperature in the pool is set between 78-82 degrees, which is perfect for these intense workouts so your swimmer does not overheat. There is also a viewing area for family and friends to watch and cheer on their swimmer during practice.

Other intangible benefits:

  • Being a part of a team – Being a part of a healthy athletic team environment can boost self-esteem. Children learn to be confident in the pool and seeing their hard work pay off has a positive impact on their self-esteem.
  • No other sport fits into the “individual” and “team” categories like swimming – Some kids get nervous competing in a team sport because they feel like they will let the team down, or they aren’t good enough to play. Swimming is a sport where the main focus is the individual, and the secondary focus is on the team. With swimming, there isn’t the pressure to succeed as there is in a traditional team sport.
  • It’s a natural stress reliever – Exercise is a great way for kids to loosen up and let go.
  • It’s FUN – The memories made playing youth sports will last a lifetime.
