Swim To A Healthier You In 2019

As the New Year approaches many people have already begun to put together their New Year’s resolution. On average according to Statistica 45% of Americans New Year’s resolution is to improve their overall health. There are several ways to accomplish this goal and one of them is of course swimming!

Calorie burner
Swimming is an excellent low impact way to work out your entire body and cardiovascular system without putting wear and tear on your bones and joints. Did you know one hour of swimming burns almost as many calories as running? Depending on what stroke you are doing and the intensity, swimming can burn equally or more calories than running without the impact on your joints.

Strength & flexibility improvement
Swimming has been known to increase your heart rate, strengthen your lungs, build endurance, build strength, and tone muscles. This is because when you’re swimming you utilize all the muscles groups in your body to move through the water. Since swimming requires your body to use several motions to maneuver such as reaching, stretching, twisting and pulling the repetitiveness and stretching found the various strokes can also help increase flexibility.

High blood sugar control
For adults with high blood pressure and blood sugar, swimming has been known to assist in controlling both issues. Research has shown that among men and women 43 and older who started swimming a few times per week lowered their systolic blood pressure. As for those with high blood sugar or diabetes, swimming can be extremely essential. When you’re performing physical activities such as swimming, your muscles cells absorb blood sugar more efficiently which in hand lowers your blood sugar levels.

Arthritis and joint ache relief
Due to the fact that swimming is a low impact activity, for those with arthritis and joint aches swimming is an excellent activity. Swimming has been known to sometimes reduce the pain from arthritis, joint aches, and other conditions. In addition to that, swimming is an excellent form of injury rehab. This is all because of the buoyancy of water, the water helps support your body weight and takes the pressure off your joints.

So as 2018 dwindles down and 2019 begins, kick-start your health and wellness goals by doing a few laps in the water. And if you don’t know how to swim take a lesson, you’ll be learning and achieving your wellness goals at the same time!
