Why BRITISH Swim School? What’s with the Name?

“Do you swim on the left side of the lane?”

Our staff always hears the question “Why British Swim School?” – usually followed with “Why not American Swim School” “Why does it have to be British?”

No, our staff is not from the UK nor do we talk in British accents, and while we like to joke that we swim on ‘the other side of the lane,” we swim on the right. So why British?

We are British Swim School because our founder, Rita Goldberg, started our organization in Great Britain. Back in 1981, she built an indoor pool in her own home to teach babies and children the importance of the back float, to reduce the infant drowning statistic. Rita wanted to teach water survival skills to children as young as three months old, and her program continues today as she is the current CEO of British Swim School.

Even when bringing over the company to Fort Lauderdale Florida in the 90s, the British title stayed, in honor of the company’s roots. Since Rita’s lone indoor pool program in 1981, British Swim School hosts over 13,000 swim lessons weekly in 3 different countries.
