Babies and Toddlers are Amazing But They Need to Learn to Swim

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we just KNEW how to swim like aquatic animals? Some of them are quite amazing. Just look at some of the things we learned about them !!

    • The 14-foot-long narwhal is a whale whose tooth can reach up to eight feet long!
    • Starfish can have up to 16 arms.
    • Dolphins sleep with one eye open.
    • The memory span of goldfish is just about 3 seconds. They can live for up to 40 years!
    • One way to tell the age of a fish is by looking at its scales. They have growth rings just like trees. These are called circuli. Clusters of them are called annuli. Each annuli shows one year.
    • A female seahorse lets her husband store her babies inside his stomach!
    • On average, sharks kill 10 humans every year. Approximately 100 people die each year when they are stepped on by cows.
    • The largest recorded jellyfish measured 2.3 m (almost 7 feet) across its bell. Its tentacles measured 36 m (120 feet) in length.

Pretty amazing right? One thing to remember is they are AQUATIC animals, not LAND animals. Do you know which one WE are? That’s right, LAND animals. That means, for us, swimming doesn’t come naturally. We need to LEARN how to swim. But the great news is, we can learn at ANY age and here at British Swim School, we teach anyone from the age of 3 months to 103 years old ! While you’ll never have 16 arms, sleep with one eye open or have an 8 foot long tooth, we can teach you how to be a super strong swimmer! And perhaps then, you’ll even see one of these amazing aquatic animals when you go swimming in the ocean! Here’s to hoping it’s not the jellyfish with the 120 feet long tentacles!
