Three Common Questions About Our Swimming Classes in Raleigh

Are you thinking of signing your child up for swimming classes in Raleigh, NC? While there are many swimming programs to choose from in the Raleigh area, not all are created equal. At British Swim School Raleigh, we teach more than just how to swim. We incorporate water safety and survival techniques into each session so kids have the critical skills they need to stay safe in the water. That’s why so many families in Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, and Morrisville choose us for their kids’ swimming classes.

Many parents have questions about our swimming classes. That’s why we are always happy to answer questions over the phone, and even invite you to observe a class in person. In the meantime, here are three of the most commonly asked questions we get from parents:

  1. How early can kids learn to swim?
At British Swim School Raleigh, we begin our swimming classes for infants as young as three years old. This is a wonderful age to acclimate young children to the water and start teaching water safety. In this parent-assisted Tadpole class, children are introduced to full, gentle submersion and back floating while singing, splashing, and playing.
  2. How can I help my child get the most out of their lessons?
There are many ways parents can help their kids make the most of each swimming class:

    • Arrive early. Since classes are only about 30 minutes long, arriving even 10 minutes late means a third of the class has gone by. Give yourself extra time to park the car, help your child change for class, and make a bathroom run.
    • Be prepared. Have a dedicated swim bag for swim class essentials, such as goggles, swim caps, swim diapers, and a plastic bag for wet suits and towels so your child always has the gear they need.
    • Enforce water safety outside of class. We teach water safety in all our swimming classes, but reinforcing these lessons while you are in the backyard pool or at a swim park with friends will help them remember what they’ve learned faster. Discuss water safety regularly, including reminders about never swimming alone and not running on pool decks.
  3. Do you offer classes for adults?
Yes! We offer everything from beginning water safety and learn-to-swim classes to advanced swim stroke classes for adults 18 and over. Along with improving your swimming abilities, adult swimming classes provide a great full body workout with very little impact and help lower tension and stress.
