Instructor Spotlight: Brittany Grady (Brady)

We love our Brady here at BSS! She has been such an incredible edition to our team since she joined us earlier this year. Her love for kids and all people is easy to see so we took a moment to ask her about her story. WHat she told us was nothing short of inspiring so we asked her to do her best to give us a short synopsis we could share and here is what she said (we wish we had the time to share it all!):

“I am a high-energy individual with a great love of special needs children. I was always pushing the envelop academically and athletically, but I am also a bit clumsy. I loved the local Sharks swim team where I excelled and earned dozens of 1st Place ribbons … In February of 2014, my clumsiness led to a slip and fall in the bathroom, hitting the back of my head on the edge of a sink. The neurosurgeon said that if the impact point had been a half centimeter higher, I would not have survived at all since it would have snapped my brain stem. But, this left my right side weak with compromised function and damaged my short-term memory. To make things worse, this put me further behind in my schoolwork than I already was from having to switch schools twice because of issues and injuries from being bullied.

As I entered my senior year, I had a year and a half of credits to complete with recurring TBI limitations. The school administrator at Omega told me that it was unlikely I could finish with my class, much less graduate as school valedictorian, which was a major goal I set my 9th grade year. With the support and encouragement of my parents, I completed all my high school credits with night courses, online and regular classes, and was able to graduate valedictorian! Not only that, I was also able to start my own part-time, online business in consumer products after graduating!”

We also took a moment to ask Brady what she loves most about working at BSS, here is what she said, “At British Swim School, I have found the combination of two of my greatest passions, swimming and helping babies, toddlers, and special needs children! This includes those with Downs Syndrome, those on the Autism spectrum, or those with other physical, mental or emotional uniqueness. Teaching swimming gives me the opportunity to lift up and encourage precious and special individuals who often find more criticism in their lives than encouragement and kindness. I am grateful that all students have a school where they can experience personal achievement, psychological growth, and survival skills.”

We are so lucky to have someone with a heart as big as Brady’s on our team!
