Introducing British Swim School Jersey Shore’s owner Paul Horner. Paul is thrilled and honored to be providing British Swim School’s premium Water Safety and Learn to Swim Program, throughout Coastal and Central New Jersey. Paul is truly proud to be able to provide students of all ages a service that teaches a Life Skill as important as swimming. A Life Skill that will open doors to so many worlds for the rest of their lives!
Paul has lived in New Jersey most of his life. He was born in Freehold, many, many, many years ago. He spent his infant years living in Asbury Park, while his father attended college at Monmouth University. After his dad graduated college, Paul and family moved to Haddon Township NJ. He spent his formative years, attending school, playing sports, and working a variety of jobs. These jobs included paper boy, lawn cutting/landscaping, fast food, warehousing, and working for tips at a country club golf course shining shoes, cleaning golf clubs, carrying bags, and running errands for members.
Paul went on to continue his education at Rutgers University in Camden, working at a Chicken Holiday and as a Longshoreman on the Camden Waterfront to completely fund his education. He graduated Rutgers with a BS in Business Management.
After college, Paul was fortunate enough to be able to move to Manhattan with his Great Aunt, where he lived for a short time. He took a job at the Home Office of New York Life, where he worked for almost 27 years in a variety of positions, ending his career as a Corporate Vice President of Systems. After Manhattan, Paul lived in Queens for a while until he was reunited and fell in love with Michele, who he knew from his time at Rutgers. Paul and Michele where married and moved to Hamilton Square where they raised 2 fantastic kids, Maddie and Tommy (Mr. Tommy to our young students!) Currently Maddie is a Scholar Athlete on the Swim Team at the University of Rhode Island, majoring in English, Psychology, and Biology. Tommy is majoring in Creative Writing and Music at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. When he is home in New Jersey, he is is a swim instructor with British Swim School!
When Paul’s time at New York Life came to an end, he realized he wanted to do something completely different. After evaluating several opportunities, the decision was made to join the British Swim School family and be able provide a service that would make a difference in people’s lives. Paul says, “Swimming is so important, particularly around New Jersey. We hear so many stories of drowning and near drowning around here. We are here to teach our students to be safe and successful in the water!”
Join Paul and his great team of swim instructors now at our brand new, heated, indoor pool at LA Fitness in Howell NJ, and coming soon to the Howard Johnson Hotel Pool in Toms River! Paul is excited to be able to offer British Swim School’s fun and gentle methods to teach the children of New Jersey how to be safe and happy in the water. “I really want our students to learn how to navigate through all kinds of water safely and believe British Swim School is the best place for that”
