Why Learning to Swim Can Empower Your Child

If your child is a big fan of The Justice League, they likely know how awesome Aquaman is. Batman has to call on Aquaman to help save the world because Aquaman has the skills that the other team members lack: he’s a hero both on land and in the water.

Every child wants to feel like a superhero. Quite frankly, what adult doesn’t want to feel like a superhero, either?

Here are 5 basic skills every superhero has that your child can learn by taking swimming lessons.

1. Confidence

Bringing justice to the world and helping people isn’t a job for the faint of heart. Neither is navigating the world of growing up. Children who know how to swim have more confidence overall, which is a major skill they will be able to hang on to for the rest of their lives.

2. Teamwork

Every superhero has a team. Iron Man has the Avengers behind him, Batman has the Justice League, and the X-Men are more powerful together. Just like their favourite heroes, your child will learn teamwork and the value of helping others as they take group lessons.

3. Problem Solving

Superheros solve problems. It’s their job to make sure that any issues their local community has are solved in a way that benefits as many people as possible, no matter what villain shows up. When they learn to swim, your child learns to solve problems. Our team of instructors at British Swim School are trained to challenge your children in every class and teach them how to face those challenges.

4. Life-Saving Skills

Water safety is one of the core components of swimming lessons. No child progresses through the program without mastering the most important skills of all: staying safe. 61% of children and teens don’t know basic swimming safety skills, which is an alarming fact. Your children will learn how to save lives and could potentially become a lifeguard one day, protecting their community. If that doesn’t make them a superhero, we don’t know what will!

5. Physical Exercise

One of the most important aspects of learning to swim is that it helps your children get the physical exercise they need, building their strength and endurance along the way. Superheros don’t get the power they do without the physical stamina to go along with it.
