The Importance of Summer Swimming Lessons in Mississauga

Swimming lessons are important Being for people of all ages, but they are especially important for young children. Human beings have an intimate connection with the water: we spend the first 9 months of our lives in-utero, suspended in liquid. Some women even choose to give birth in water, and human infants, while unable to swim (as we would define it), instinctively hold their breath and open their eyes under water.

Knowing how to swim is a vital life skill you give your children, and below are some of the reasons why keeping up with those summer swimming lessons is always a good idea.

Swimming lessons instill self-confidence

One of the rewards of knowing how to swim is increased self-confidence, both in and out of the water. In addition to learning how to support and control themselves in and around the water, summer swimming lessons teach children that, with work and dedication, they gain mastery over the world around them and are better able to enjoy it.

Safety in and around the water

According to Lindsay Mondick, the Senior Manager for Aquatics of the YMCA, swimming is absolutely a skill that saves lives. Swimming lessons teach children how to look after themselves, as well as help other people who might be struggling while in the water. Knowing the dos and don’ts of water safety could mean the difference between disaster, and disaster averted, especially since you will not always be there to ensure your children are safe and sound in the water.

Expertise and trained swimming instructors

There is a difference between knowing how to swim, and knowing how to teach someone how to swim. Just because we, as adults, know how to handle ourselves in the water, does not mean that we can effectively transfer that knowledge to the next generation. The people who teach swimming lessons are certified and trained in water safety and competence.

A sense of community is important for children

Not only are swimming lessons fun and vital, they also provide children with a great introduction into what it means to be part of a small community. Swimming lessons involve helping one another, working together, and working towards a common goal – all skills that will be useful to them as future citizens. Swimming lessons bring together people from diverse backgrounds, and empower children to take control in a fun, but potentially hazardous environment.

Many parents spend the summer trying to find ways to occupy their children while school is out. British Swim School is a great option for parents looking to both structure their children’s days, and provide them with life skills and water safety training that will serve them (and you) well into the future.
