As a parent, you always look for the very best for your child. This is especially true when it comes to choosing a swim program, since your child’s abilities in the water are vitally important to their safety. At British Swim School Greater Toronto, our swimming program integrates water safety and survival into each swimming class, giving Mississauga area kids the skills they need to be water safe now, and throughout their lives. Our swimming classes are held year-round, and are available to kids and adults in Mississauga, Meadowvale, Brampton, Churchville, Lakeview, and the surrounding communities.

Interested in enrolling, but have questions? For your convenience, we’ve put together a list of some of the questions most commonly asked by parents about our swimming classes in Mississauga:

  1. Classes start at three months old? How can kids so young learn to swim?
Yes, our Tadpole and Swimboree “Parent and Me” classes start as young as three months old, and are a perfect introduction to the water for young children. With parent assistance, students get comfortable in the water, and focus on submersion and back floating. Fun games and playtime provide the repetition needed for muscle memory, and the positive experiences they have now will give them the confidence they need to master swimming and safety skills as they progress.
  2. What will my child learn in swimming classes?
This will vary based on each student’s age and abilities, but no matter which level your child begins at, there will be a strong emphasis on water safety and survival skills. Younger students will learn skills such as gentle submersion and back floating, while older students will learn proper stroke techniques and propulsion. Advanced students on our swim team learn how to prepare for competitions, and build strength, stamina, and speed in the water.
  3. What if my child is afraid of the water?
Fear of the water is a common concern for many parents, especially if as a parent, you aren’t fond of water or swimming pools yourself. Rest assured, you are not alone, and we have helped many families with this same issue. Our instructors are patient, encouraging, and have lots of techniques at their disposal to put your child at ease. The group environment can also be very helpful, allowing kids a chance to observe other kids having fun and enjoying the water before they jump in themselves.
