What Can You Expect at British Swim School of Greater Boston?

British Swim School’s mission is to ensure that every person, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer. At the British Swim School, we don’t just teach children how to swim, we teach survival skills first. These skills are tools that they will have for a lifetime and are the building blocks for refining their strokes once they’ve been mastered. We teach swimmers as young as 3 months how to roll over onto their backs in order to take a breath, rest and call for help. This alleviates the “silent” danger of floating face down.

Many parents make the mistake of waiting until their child is 4 or 5 to enroll in a swim program. We recommend getting children into swim lessons as soon as possible – not only for the early acquisition of water survival skills, but for many physical and psychological benefits too! The confidence that our swimmers build as they climb through our levels becomes an asset not just in the pool, but in many other facets of life as well.

British Swim School of Greater Boston currently offers swim lessons at 2 locations in Bedford and Stoneham. Here is a list of the swim levels offered at British Swim School of Greater Boston – and the ages they are geared for:

  • Tadpole (3 to 36 months): This parent-and-me class is a gentle first introduction to the pool for the smallest swimmers. It includes plenty of play, splashing, and exploration.
  • Swimboree (3 to 36 months): Children begin to learn water survival skills, while still keeping the focus on fun and games with a parent in the water. Instructor will also work one on one with the student.
  • Seahorse (18 to 36 months): During this class, instructors work with each student individually, emphasizing water survival, while parents participate from the pool deck.
  • Starfish (3 years and up): This level focuses on building confidence, awareness and independence in the pool. It is a water acclimation level for swimmers over 3 years old.
  • Minnow (3 years and up): British Swim School of Greater Boston has Minnow swim lessons that offer a small group setting for kids to learn water survival techniques, while still having fun.
  • Turtle 1 and 2 (3 years and up): The Turtle classes introduce the building blocks for proper Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breaststroke, as well as help students improve their technique.
  • Shark 1 and 2 (3 years and up): Students in our Shark levels perfect stroke technique and prepare for future swim team participation.
  • Adult Beginner: British Swim School of Greater Boston provides adult beginner group lessons with the ratio of up to 3 students per 1 instructor. We help adults learn to overcome the fear of water and learn to swim.
  • Adult Intermediate: The intermediate level is designed to help you correct your stroke techniques and build endurance. Whether you are training for a triathlon or just want to swim better, we will work with you to achieve your goals.
  • Private and Semi Private: British Swim School of Greater Boston offers these classes for students that need special attention or those who would like to achieve their goals faster. Spaces are limited and subject to availability.

Our swim program is year-around with open enrollment. Lessons are taught in indoor heated pools by energetic and experienced instructors. Your child will also get plenty of one-on-one time thanks to small class sizes (up to 4 students in most levels).
