A Few Things to Be Thankful For

Our November news is coming to you close to Thanksgiving. This is the time of year we think about those people and things in our lives that we are thankful for. Remember to add swimming to that list!

  1. Learning to swim is personal. It can be difficult overcoming fears, building muscle memory, improving coordination, increasing endurance, struggling with the proper technique of a stroke. So, be thankful for those personal goals you achieve at each lesson. Celebrate when you or your little one achieves a new milestone.
  2. Swimming builds strength and endurance. It strengthens your immune system. If you think it is too cold out to continue lessons, remember, our pool is indoor and heated, and the exercise actually improves your immune system and makes it stronger, ready to combat some of the winter illnesses coming our way.
  3. Learning to swim has its ups and downs. Learning to struggle and overcome a difficulty is an important life skill. Learning to swim can have its hurdles and learning to face those challenges and overcome them with patience, practice and perseverance builds self-confidence.
  4. Enjoying the company of your classmates, watching them struggle and succeed, and having fun in the water with new friends is a great reason to be thankful.
  5. There are so many great health benefits swimmers take advantage of. Swimming is wonderful exercise, builds strength, reduces stress, improves sleep, lowers blood pressure, increases lung capacity, and improves your health.
  6. Swimming also improves your cognitive functions. It makes you smarter!
  7. Be thankful for making yourself safer. Drowning is preventable. Learning to swim will make you safer around water. Encouraging your children to swim and being a parent concerned with water safety education makes the whole family safer.
