Special Abilities Swim Program in Dupage-Kane Counties

Special Abilities Swim Lessons in Dupage-Kane Counties

British Swim School’s mission is to ensure that every student, regardless of age or ability, has the opportunity to become a safe and happy swimmer. We believe that the success of our program comes from focusing our attention on the strengths of each person, building a strong rapport with our students and their families, and of course, teaching valuable water safety skills through play and fun activities!

Individuals who struggle in other areas of their life find a much more level playing field when it comes to being in an aquatic environment. For many of our students, they are able to do things in the water that they are unable to do on land. For those with special needs, such as kids with Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, or SPD, movement in water can create opportunities to enhance:

  • Overall Physical Health and Wellbeing
  • Cognitive Benefits – confidence in and around water by learning life-saving techniques and water safety skills
  • Gross Motor and Fine Motor Skills- flexibility, agility, range of motion, and muscular strength
  • Vestibular System – balance, reaction time, and coordination
  • Social-Emotional Skills – independence, feelings of accomplishment, self-confidence, positive interactions, and teamwork
  • Sensory Integration – responses to temperature, pressure, and breath control
  • Leisure and Recreational skills that can be transferred to other activities in everyday life

If you have concerns about your child’s reaction to new environments or new people, sense of danger, ability to communicate, physical limitations, or perhaps your child has never experienced being in a pool before, you can rest assured knowing that when you enroll your child in the Special Abilities Program through British Swim School, our team of certified instructors and support staff will come (remove ‘come’ and replace with ‘work’) alongside your family to ensure the highest quality of aquatic instruction that is specific to your child’s needs, abilities, goals, and preferences. Lessons are conducted in a 1:1, small group, or semi-private setting and we are able to offer a variety of times at our four locations in the western suburbs of Chicago; Naperville, Glendale Heights, Carol Stream and South Elgin.
