Meet our Instructor, Maggie!

Hello students and parents! My name is Maggie and I am so thrilled to be able to share the gift of swimming and water safety with you all! I am from Simsbury, CT and go to Marist College. I am in my senior year and am a social work major.

I’ve always loved to swim and be outside. Growing up my summers consisted of me swimming on family vacations in lakes in New Hampshire, in my best friend’s pool, or at my summer camp. I loved to take swim lessons and would spend entire days in the water until my fingers turned to prunes. From a young age I knew I wanted to be a lifeguard.

When I was 15 I was training to become a counselor at camp and was able to get my lifeguard certification. When working at camp, my favorite class to teach was swim lessons. I got my Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification when I was 18 and spent the next two summers teaching eight weeks of swim lessons to campers in our lake. Last year I brought these skills to the area and taught swim lessons at the Hudson Valley Community Center.

I love teaching at British Swim School because of the emphasis on water safety. Unlike what I learned through Red Cross, students are taught how to feel comfortable and safe in the water. I’m so excited to swim with you all!
