Happy Talk Like A Pirate Day

September 19 – “Talk Like a Pirate Day”. What do you do? Get out your eye patch, your bandana, your Jolly Roger flag, a big, baggy shirt and maybe a toy monkey or parrot. And then try to sound as much like a pirate as you can.

Say “Ahoy matey”, “Avast”, “Yo Ho Ho” and “Arrrrgh”

Some fun pirate facts:
Pirates have been around ever since there have been ships carrying goods on the seas. Julius Caser was captured by pirates twice. Two of the most famous pirates were the Barbarossa Brothers who took European ships in the Mediterranean in the late 1400’s and early 1500’s. Queen Elizabeth I called Sir Francis Drake “my pirate”. He was a privateer licensed by the English government to attack Spanish shipping. Later he would be the first person to circumnavigate the globe. Captain Kidd started out as a legitimate and respected privateer but turned to piracy. In one trip he stopped at New York’s Gardiners Island to bury treasure. Blackbeard decided to frighten his enemies by weaving smoking rope fuses into his long braided beard. At one point, he blockaded the port of Charleston South Carolina until they met his demands for medicine. In the early 1800’s a Chinese man formed one of the largest pirate confederations. After he died, his wife took over the “business” and expanded it to almost 1800 ships and 70,000 men

Here’s a pirate joke:
What’s a pirate’s favorite movie? “Booty and the Beast”

We all have heard of pirates making people walk the plank. We certainly hope it never happens to you. However, if you have been taking lessons at British Swim School you will know how to swim away or at least roll over on your back and float.

So, matey, practice how to talk like a pirate and practice how to float and how to swim at British Swim School, all the time having more fun than barrel full of parrots – or monkeys.
