At British Swim School, safety is our top priority. That’s why we focus on teaching critical water survival skills, such as floating and treading water, in addition to stroke development. By mastering these essential skills, our students gain the confidence and ability to enjoy the water safely.

So, what types of classes do we offer?

  • Water acclimation. These classes are perfect for those who are just starting out on their swimming journey. They provide a gentle introduction to the water and help swimmers feel comfortable and safe. Through fun activities like splashing and singing, instructors work to reduce any potential for tears and build confidence in the water.
  • Water survival. Once swimmers have acclimated to the water, they can move on to learning survival skills. In these classes, swimmers build on their existing skills to learn how to explore the water independently. They will learn important safety skills, such as the back float and swim strokes, which are essential for staying safe in the water.
  • Stroke development. More advanced swimmers are ready to learn swimming strokes. These classes focus on perfecting the four main swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Instructors work with swimmers to refine their techniques and improve their overall performance in the water.

Our Story: Your Introduction to British Swim School

British Swim School of North Shore is locally owned and operated by Massachusetts natives Peter and Jennifer Nigro. After spending more than 15 years in sales, Peter was ready to leave corporate America. He appreciated Jennifer’s work in the non-profit sector and decided he wanted to find a business that was also mission-driven and contributed to the community in a meaningful way.

“British Swim School ticked off all the boxes on our business wish list. It fulfilled our desire to do good while developing a business,” says Peter Nigro, co-owner of British Swim School North Shore. “And there is an added bonus: both Jennifer and I have extensive backgrounds in swimming — mine being recreational and hers being competitive. The connection to an activity we are passionate about cemented our decision to join this exciting and essential brand.”

Swimming is an important life skill that everyone should learn. That’s why we pride ourselves on providing a safe and supervised environment for swimmers to build confidence and improve water safety. The benefits of swimming are endless, and it’s also a lot of fun!

“Our 4-year-old daughter has participated in a few different swim classes and she never seemed to be working towards a clear goal. As a result, we finished each session without her knowing how to swim.” When our daughter was 2, we signed her up for swim classes, but were highly disappointed,” says Jennifer Nigro, co-owner of British Swim School of North Shore. “With the British Swim School method, parents will have confidence their children are safer if and when they are around water.”
