Adult Swim Lessons: Teaching Lifesaving Water Safety Skills

With the knowledge that many adults either can’t swim or aren’t confident in their swimming abilities, we created our unique Adult curriculum to address this growing need. This program takes our traditional British Swim School methods and applies them in a way that’s specifically designed to work with adult swimmers to help them feel comfortable and safe in the water. In our customized Adult Aquatics Program, our instructors work with you to create a program driven by your goals, timeline, and foundational skills. Within these guidelines, we establish a foundation of safety and comfort, then move toward fundamental aquatic skills and, if you choose, swimming proficiency.

Overall, the most important element of this program is that everyone is working together and towards the same goal: water safety. Many individuals inaccurately associate drowning risks with children, but approximately 70% of drowning victims today are adults. Regardless of your age, knowing and practicing critical water safety skills could save your life! Learning to swim as an adult can, directly and indirectly, save more lives by not only enabling more individuals to save themselves but also equipping adults with the skills to save someone else in need!

Depending on the swimmer’s skill level and areas of need, we have different levels within the Adult Aquatics Program:

Adult Level 1

Water Acclimation

This level is designed to help those who are inexperienced with the water to gain confidence, learn safe practices, and start building the foundation for swimming. We also work toward building an appreciation of, and respect for, the aquatic environment.

Adult Level 2

Survival

Participants build on skills learned in Adult 1, adding survival practices and the basics of several different swim strokes. The primary goal is the attainment of water competency to avoid or overcome challenges in the water.

Adult Level 3

Stroke Development

Participants in this level grow their endurance and knowledge of swim strokes and work towards personal goals that may include building pace, stamina, or stroke proficiency. This level is geared toward advanced swimmers and aims to promote swimming as a lifelong activity.
