Swimming Classes in Mississauga: 4 Common Questions Answered

You want the best for your child – and that includes the swim class you enroll them in. But with so many different options for swimming classes throughout Mississauga, Meadowvale, Brampton, Churchville, and Lakeview, ON, it can be tough to make the right choice.

That’s why it’s important to evaluate each swim school, so you can make the best decision for your child – and your family. To help you in the process, here are a few common questions we get about our swimming classes, asked and answered.

When should my child begin swim lessons? It’s always surprising to some parents that children can start learning to swim when they are infants. In fact, at our Mississauga locations, our swimming classes begin at age three months. When babies are in the pool at a young age with a parent, they can more readily adapt than when swim lessons start at an older age. This positive experience provides them with a leg up when mastering later swimming and safety skills.

What if they don’t like the water? This is certainly a valid concern for many parents. Sometimes, you don’t know what your child’s reaction will be to the pool until they’re actually in it. But, at British Swim School Greater Toronto, you can always rest assured that our experienced and gentle instructors know how to help your child overcome their fears and gain more confidence in the pool.

What will my child learn during swimming lessons? During swimming classes in one of our four Mississauga pools, your child will learn a range of skills that will help them develop into a strong, safe swimmer. In the earliest classes, the focus is on areas such as water acclimation, submersion and floating. Later on, kids learn about proper stroke technique and can compete on a swim team. No matter which program your child is enrolled in, they will always learn valuable water safety and survival skills.

How can I help my child learn to swim in addition to lessons? As a parent, there are plenty of things you can do to help your child learn to swim faster. For instance, if you have a pool at home, then practice in it as often as possible. If you don’t, you can always practice in the bathtub, too. Along the way, you should always be reinforcing the rules for safe swimming they’re learning in class.
