Three Common Questions About Our Swimming Classes in Miami

There are many reasons to enroll your child in swimming classes, especially if you live in the Miami area, where there is year-round warm weather and easy access to the ocean. But as important as it is to learn how to swim, it’s even more important to learn how to be safe in the water. That’s why so many families in Miami, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, South Miami, Sunset, and the surrounding FL communities choose us for their families’ swimming classes. Our unique program integrates water safety and survival techniques into every swimming class, arming your child with the crucial skills needed to be safe in the water throughout their lives.

As you research swimming programs in the Miami area, you may have questions about how classes are run, and what to expect. While we are happy to answer questions over the phone and welcome you to drop in on one of our classes to observe, here are a few questions commonly asked by parents new to our program:

  1. What is the earliest age I can enroll my child to learn to swim?
We start swimming classes with infants as young as three months old in our parent-assisted Tadpole class. With a parent or guardian, children are introduced to the water in a fun and playful atmosphere where they start learning basic water survival skills, including an assisted back float. These classes also include lots of playtime, splashing, and singing to keep kids engaged and enjoying the water, so expect to see lots of smiles!
  2. Do you teach more than survival skills?
Yes! While we initially teach all our students to be safe in the water, once children learn and can repeat the skills taught in our Minnow class, such as learning to fall in the water, roll over, surface on their backs, and float independently for 20 seconds, your child will begin learning important swimming skills in our Turtle 1 class. And because every child learns at their own pace, our classes aren’t run on set “sessions” that begin or end on a specific date. Instead, we let children progress at their own pace, and move them up to the next level based on when they master the skills, not based on when a session begins or ends. This way, your child never has to wait to start a new level, allowing them to continue progressing at their own pace.
  3. What if my child cries or is afraid of the water?
This is a valid concern for many parents. Some children are afraid of the water, or hesitant to jump in. Rest assured, this is completely normal, and for many children, it’s a fear of the unknown. Our patient and gentle instructors use many different techniques that can help ease your child’s fear of the water and give them the confidence they need to overcome their fear and learn to enjoy the water.
