Everything Parents Should Know About Swimming Lessons in Lafayette

Swim instructor teaching a swimming lesson

Swimming lessons in Lafayette teach water survival and swimming skills that every child should know. The water can be dangerous, especially for young children who are curious, energetic, and eager to explore their surroundings. While swimming lessons can’t eliminate the risks of drowning completely, they can make everyone safer around the water.

No one is drown-proof, but drowning is preventable. We encourage everyone to start swimming lessons as early as possible. It’s never too early or too late to start learning. Many swim schools offer programs for children under the age of 1 to adults.

There’s a good chance that your local community pool offers swimming lessons during the summer. However, we recommend year-round lessons, especially for children who are new to swimming. Swimming is a physical milestone that requires time, consistency, and practice to maintain.

The benefits of learning how to swim are endless. Balancing safety and fun, swimming lessons provide peace of mind for parents and an excellent activity for adults!

Our Approach to Swimming Lessons in Lafayette

At British Swim School, our mission is to help every individual become a safer, stronger swimmer. Besides teaching traditional stroke techniques, our survival-first program specializes in water safety education and survival skill training. This ensures that our students not only know how to swim but also how to save themselves from an accidental fall into the water.

We offer swimming lessons for people of all ages and abilities, from 3-month-old babies to adults. Our learn-to-swim curriculum covers water acclimation, water survival, and stroke development. Our water acclimation levels focus on comfortability and building a positive relationship with the water. As soon as they’re ready, swimmers progress to our water survival levels. In this stage, we introduce them to water safety skills that will be used throughout the entire swim program. And finally, our stroke development levels teach the four basic strokes with a focus on proper form, building stamina, and skill mastery.

Why choose British Swim School for swimming lessons in Lafayette?

  • Survival-First Approach—Every swimming lesson emphasizes water survival skills. Why? Swimmers need to know how to survive in the water before progressing to stroke techniques.
  • Goal-Oriented Program—Each class contains five clearly defined goals to achieve before advancing to the next level. Setting goals provides structure and gives students multiple opportunities for achievement.
  • Individual Attention—Our program takes an individualized approach to learning, meaning students can advance as soon as they’ve mastered the required skills. This approach blends the benefits of group and private lessons.
  • Small Class Sizes—Our small class sizes allow the instructors to provide personalized attention in a group setting. A true win-win!
  • Year-Round Enrollment—Lessons take place in year-round, indoor locations, so students can join any time and get started right away.
