Survival Week Crossword Puzzle Answers

The crossword puzzle was somewhat difficult. Seventeen of you were brave enough to attempt it. No one knew all the answers, and it showed us that we need to be better at introducing ourselves. It is super easy for us to know all the children’s names, but it is also our goal to know all of your names, and for you to know ours. The information on the puzzle is important to know as well, so here we go:

The important numbers to know:

• The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends all children over six months old take swim lessons.
• In the time it takes to read and respond to a text (about twenty seconds), a person can drown. – Adults in Arizona are five times more likely to drown than children.
• Drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages one to four.
• Over twenty thousand people in the US suffer permanent brain damage from a near-drowning.
• Drowning is the second leading cause of death for all children.
• There are seven lines of defense to protect people from drowning. They include fences, locked gates, pool alarms, locked doors, supervision, CPR, and swim lessons.
• Over four thousand people die from drowning n the US every year.
• People who take swim lessons are eighty-eight percent less likely to drown than those who don’t.
• Only nine percent of the children on the spectrum (autism spectrum disorder) who wander away near water will return. Sadly, the other 91% will drown.

And…the introductions to staff:

Vicki is our aquatic director. She is on the deck or teaching most days.

Rose is our Deck Ambassador. She is on the deck ready to answer your questions, reschedule a class, and assist where needed.

Kayti, Mya, and Alaina are our fabulous instructors. Dylan is our summer/break instructor. And, Sebastien is our new instructor.

Yelena is our Operations Manager and Customer Service Rep. We miss her on the deck, but she may answer your call.

Dejan is our fearless leader and owner of The British Swim School/East Valley franchise. He, too, may answer your call.

Just FYI…we have one other awesome staff member, Jeanne, whom you will rarely meet. She is our Marketing Specialist, and sends out our blogs, updates our social media and takes and posts pictures, among other things.

Our staff will grow and change in 2020 as we open new pools. Mya plans to backpack across Europe this summer before she leaves for college. As always, we will continue to offer a quality program and fun, professional staff. Keep Swimming!!!
