Hello, my name is Vicki!
I am the Aquatics Director for the British Swim School – East Valley. I have worked in the aquatics field for the last 40 years. In high school, I began my aquatic journey as a lifeguard for the City of Racine (Wisconsin). I also worked part-time teaching swim lessons at the Racine YMCA. I continued working as a swim instructor and life guard through college, where I majored in History and Secondary Education. I married, had children, and moved to Minneapolis, MN where I began my new career as a high school teacher.
I loved working in aquatics, so took a part-time position teaching lessons on Saturdays at the YMCA in Minneapolis, where my children learned to swim. After my children moved out, my husband and I semi-retired and moved to northern Wisconsin. I transferred to the Oshkosh Family YMCA where I worked full-time as a lifeguard supervisor and swim instructor. It was here that I became a trainer and decided to make a career move full-time in the aquatics field. I accepted a full-time Aquatics Director position in Virginia and enjoyed the opportunity to grow as an aquatics professional, working with state and local professionals in public safety. During this time, I trained and managed a large staff of life-guards and swim instructors, trained most of the counties aquatic personnel, worked with the state parks to maintain a well-trained staff and safe environments, and was responsible for planning and implementing lessons not only for the YMCA members, but for every second-grader in the county. I also planned and implemented lessons for every Special Ed student in the county, working with children of all ages and abilities with a variety of physical and mental disabilities. During my career as an aquatics professional, I have taught many thousands of children and adults to swim and be safer around water. It is my passion to continue to be of service to our community to prevent drowning, and to teach others the joy of swimming as a lifetime activity.
I am not only a life-long teacher, I am a life-long learner. The British Swim School has afforded me the opportunity to grow as an instructor…teaching me a better way to reach my goals. After years of working with different programs, I can honestly tell you that I am very impressed with the British Swim School program. It has, by far, the best approach to teaching swimming I have seen. It is truly a premier program. I look forward to helping build an appreciation for the British Swim School in the East Valley area and hope to teach many more lessons.
