Our classes cater to every age and skill level, and we’re committed to ensuring that each student receives the attention they need to thrive.

We understand everyone has their own unique learning style, which is why we keep our classes small and personalized. Our instructors work closely with each student, providing individualized attention and feedback to help them achieve their goals. From parent-assisted programs for infants and toddlers to adult classes, we have something to offer everyone.

We believe that learning to swim should be a fun and exciting experience, which is why we use a progressive teaching method that emphasizes comfort, safety, and confidence in the water. Our students advance to the next level as soon as they’ve mastered the goals of their current level, ensuring that they’re always challenged and making progress.

So, what types of classes do we offer?

  • Water acclimation. These classes are perfect for those who are just starting out on their swimming journey. They provide a gentle introduction to the water and help swimmers feel comfortable and safe. Through fun activities like splashing and singing, instructors work to reduce any potential for tears and build confidence in the water.
  • Water survival. Once swimmers have acclimated to the water, they can move on to learning survival skills. In these classes, swimmers build on their existing skills to learn how to explore the water independently. They will learn important safety skills, such as the back float and swim strokes, which are essential for staying safe in the water.
  • Stroke development. More advanced swimmers are ready to learn swimming strokes. These classes focus on perfecting the four main swimming strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Instructors work with swimmers to refine their techniques and improve their overall performance in the water.

Your Introduction to British Swim School

British Swim School of Central Maryland is locally owned and operated by Bonnie Alcid, who first began teaching swimming lessons for the city of Rockville over 20 years ago. Aclid enjoyed the experience so much, she decided to dive into swim school ownership for herself.

“The most rewarding part of our job is seeing a little swimmer master a skill that they had been struggling with,” said Alcid. “The joy on their face is so precious. Even seeing small weekly progression is rewarding!”

Swimming is an important life skill that everyone should learn. That’s why we pride ourselves on providing a safe and supervised environment for swimmers to build confidence and improve water safety. The benefits of swimming are endless, and it’s also a lot of fun!

“I’ve taught swimming lessons since I was 14 years old in different programs and areas of the country,” said Alcid. “What makes British Swim School unique is how we teach students to react (not panic) if they fall or jump into the water. This is a crucial skill for water safety and drowning prevention.”

Our team is full of caring, passionate people who want to see your child succeed and grow. We are a family-owned business that is dedicated to promoting water safety and swimming lessons. And it would honor us to teach you and your family how to swim.
