What are survival swim lessons? Basically, survival swim lessons teach critical water safety techniques that enable a swimmer to float, yell out for help, and rest until they can propel themselves to safety. These skills are critically important in Michigan, and specifically Detroit, which are surrounded by amazing lakes to visit and explore – whether it’s for fishing, boating, or just relaxing on the shore. Knowing the basics of survival swimming can save lives!
Our Survival Swim Lessons in Novi
Water safety is at the core of everything we do at British Swim School of Northwest Detroit. Following our mantra “survival of the littlest,” our curriculum-based program begins with the foundation of water survival first, followed by learn-to-swim programs. Water safety and survival skills are taught in every class and are introduced on day one, with consistent reinforcement as children progress to more advanced levels.
Additionally, we prepare children for unexpected incidents outside of our lessons with safety training that includes learning to swim without goggles and while wearing clothing!
- Learning to swim while fully clothed: Several times throughout the year, we continue to work on our survival skills during lessons, but students learn to do all these skills while wearing clothing! Why? Often, children are not wearing their bathing suit when an accident happens. We want everyone to experience this feeling in a controlled environment to decrease the panic should something happen outside of our lessons!
- Learning to swim without goggles: While goggles can make the swimming experience more enjoyable, it’s important for children to be comfortable swimming with and without goggles to prevent panic if they ever find themselves underwater without them!
