Highland Park is a small town with a big sense of community, tucked along the Raritan River in central New Jersey. It’s the kind of place where you know your neighbors, kids walk or bike to school, and families gather in the parks after dinner. The schools are part of the Highland Park School District, and families appreciate the town’s focus on education, diversity, and inclusion. It’s a walkable, welcoming place that feels peaceful but is still close to everything — including downtown New Brunswick and Rutgers University just across the bridge.
There’s a lot to do as a family in Highland Park. Donaldson Park is a go-to for locals, with open green space, a big playground, sports fields, and scenic river views that are perfect for walks or picnics. Just across the river, Johnson Park has a small zoo, more playgrounds, and space to run around, making it great for weekend adventures with little ones. Throughout the year, the town also hosts events like street fairs, movie nights, and holiday festivals that help families connect and enjoy time together.
If you’re looking for water activities, Highland Park has a few options close by. Donaldson Park offers river access for kayaking or canoeing — it’s quiet, easygoing, and fun for beginners. Nearby Edison recently opened a splash park, which is perfect for cooling off in the summer with younger kids. And if you’re up for a short drive, Thompson Park in Monroe Township has a lake for fishing and paddle boating, plus playgrounds and even a small animal area that families love.
If you’re ready to make unforgettable family memories and enjoy all the area has to offer, join the British Swim School family today! We’re proud to serve the communities of Piscataway, North Brunswick, New Brunswick, Milltown, Highland Park, Fords, Keasbey, Perth Amboy, South River, Sayreville, South Amboy, Middlesex, and the surrounding areas.
