On Monday, staff of British Swim School St. Louis organized a surprise party for owner Birch McMullin to celebrate 3 years of British Swim School St. Louis. There were cookies decorated with the BSS logo. Operations Director Jared’s wife made delicious and beautiful cupcakes decorated with the logo and with 3’s. There were even hats and horns and balloons. And, for Birch, it was a complete surprise.
Most importantly, there were the wonderful organizers – the great staff ! One of the staff said “We all feel really happy to grow the business with Birch and he’s been such an awesome boss that we wanted to make it a special day.”
In reality, of course, it is the staff who are truly awesome – from office staff, to marketing and administrative staff to deck ambassadors to instructors. Patty, the Aquatics Director, when asked how she has been able to find so many amazing instructors in a challenging hiring environment, talked about how gratifying it is to be involved in something so meaningful and that the instructors she hires truly appreciate the importance of teaching water safety and survival, that they are excited to be part of something so important. All of the staff really believe in what British Swim School is doing. They are a fun, enthusiastic and friendly group that can plan a surprise party with horns and hats or can play joyfully with children at the end of each lesson, but they also really believe in the importance of what they do.
There is indeed a lot to celebrate. There are now 8 locations, with more to come. And there are many wonderful instructors who love the kids they work with and really know the best ways to teach ! There are the terrific staff members who have come on board this year to work on marketing and finding more pools and administering the office and overseeing operations and being liaisons with families – all of them are dedicated to what British Swim School does ! Then there are the growing numbers of students ! Most rewarding is the knowledge that more and more children (and more and more adults) are learning to swim and learning to be safe in the water.
