Here are some of our happy Turtle 2’s

Sea turtles, like our turtles, are air breathing and are omnivores but some of their favorite foods are jellyfish, clams, algae, sponges and coral, none of which we guess would make a list of favorite foods for our turtles…

While some sea turtles are the same size (more or less) as our turtles, some get really big – up to 8 feet and weighing 1300 pounds!!

Some of our Turtles are losing baby teeth or have new ones growing in. Pity the sea turtle who has no teeth. (But he does have very strong jaws)

Sea turtles are thought of as slow swimmers. And our Turtles start out swimming slowly. However, they won’t ever get as fast as turtles can sometimes swim – 22 mph. Even Michael Phelps can’t pull that off. He tops out at 6 mph.

But our Turtle 1’s are learning to be safe in the water by learning to jump in and rollover and float and swim. Sea turtles can’t do that! Our turtles are also beginning to learn swim strokes so that by the time they move up to Turtle 2, they can independently swim 10 yards of beginner backstroke and 10 yards of beginner freestyle. No backstroke or freestyle for those sea turtles. As a Turtle 2, students learn to do backstroke for 20 yards, freestyle for 20 yards, breaststroke for 20 yards and butterfly kick for 10 yards. They also learn to tread water for 1 minute.

We do think those sea turtles are lovely to watch as they glide through the water and, on this World Turtle Day, we support their preservation.

British Swim School St. Louis offers premium water survival and swimming lessons for infants, toddlers, children and adults, starting at just 3 months old.
