The app features ways to keep parents well informed about swim lessons and makes keeping in contact a little easier. It is also your one-stop shop for all the details on your child’s swim classes !

But did you know that there are also apps that your child can use to learn about water safety?

The Adventures of Splish and Splash has three different games to teach children about water safety. One game teaches the importance of having an adult Water Watcher nearby whenever in or near a pool. The goal is to keep Splish and Splash swimming in the Water Watcher’s line of sight. The aim of the second game is to “help Splish find her way to the pool by going through the pool gates that are opened by adults.” She knows never to go near the water unless there is an adult watching – not a kid or a monster ! The third game teaches kids to stay away from drains. The idea is to help Splash swim across the pool without touching any of the drains. The game is deigned to remind kids to stay away from pool drains. Pool drains, filters and other openings in the pool can create powerful and dangerous suction causing entrapment. These Splish and Splash games have been created as part of the Consumer Product Safety Commission effort called Pool Safely: Simple Steps to Save Lives. The games are available for free from the App Store or Google Play and can be downloaded on Apple or Android devices.

The Stew Leonard III Water Safety Foundation created the book Stewie the Duck Learns to Swim which is available as an app. Stewie wants to swim with the “big ducks,” but is prevented from going in the water by his older sisters until he learns the water safety rules. The book features read-to-me audio and contains interactive animations, sound effects, a memory game, and a sing-along.

There is also a Stewie game for kids called Super Stewie Safety Toss, a fun game that involves tossing life vests on baby ducks. It is also available from the app Store.

While not a game, the app Kids Alive – Do the Five is a simple cartoon with a catchy tune. It was created by an Australian swim coach who started a program to combat drowning in the under 5 age group. The graphics are simple and the song is cute and memorable.

Featured on the British Swim School of St. Louis app for parents will be any Important News as far as upcoming pool closures, class cancellations, or special events.
