A huge part of our focus is on water safety and survival skills. In fact, that’s the very reason our swim school was founded. With November being National Child Safety and Protection Month, we thought it was the ideal time to offer a few water survival and safety tips that we teach in our classes:

Don’t depend on floaties. Floaties and inflatable toys are cute and fun to use. But they should never be relied upon as a protective device for your child. Only U.S. Coast Guard-certified life jackets have been approved for safety in the water.

Stay vigilant. When you’re watching your kids in the pool, it’s important to stay vigilant. That means no playing games on your phone, texting, or reading a book. Your eyes need to be trained on your kids at all times.

Talk about water safety. Communication is key when it comes to teaching water safety. So talk to your kids early and often about proper water and pool-side behavior. Discuss rules, such as never swimming alone, and why they’re important. If water safety is a concept they hear about often, it will become second nature to them.

Be prepared. When kids see water, they often want to jump in first and think second. It’s therefore vital for parents to be alert and well-prepared. That means don’t take your eyes off your kids and always have a phone on hand in case of an emergency. You may even want to consider taking a CPR and basic First Aid class.

Sign them up for swimming classes. At British Swim School of Southwest Orlando, we know one of the best ways to keep kids safe in the water is with proper swimming classes. Not only will your child learn to swim, but also how to do so safely and what to do in the case of an accident or emergency.

It’s Safety First in Our Orlando Swimming Classes!

In British Swim School of Southwest Orlando’s swimming classes, our focus and priority is teaching young students safe swimming techniques and water safety skills.
