Going the Distance: Learn How to Swim Faster and Longer

What are the ways to swimming faster and longer? There are many ways to improve your speed and time in the swimming baths. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. There are no other shortcuts to get there without practicing.

If you are a beginner or a veteran who wants to improve your overall speed in swimming, then all you need to do is to go to the swimming baths as often as you can and time yourself each time. Even if it is only an improvement of just seconds per week, it is progress. Although it will be difficult, it will help towards swimming faster and longer than ever before.

The thing about practice is that it has to be maintained on a regular basis. How do you think Olympians break records during the Olympic Games? They exercise and practice regularly and that is what you will need to do, then you will beat your own personal best and then you beat that person who had seemed to be way out in front of yourself. Make it a routine and practice all the possible strokes that you want to be faster in.

One of the best ways for swimming faster is to go with a swimming partner, who has the same kind of swimming ability that you have. Find a partner to swim with and you will soon see that you will be swimming faster and longer. But be careful when choosing someone to swim with, swimming with someone that is too slow or too fast has an opposing effect on your performance. You will find that either there is no motivation to go on, because you consistently outperform the other person or they think it is too easy so they too will lose motivation.

How to swim faster and longer in 3 steps:

  1. Competition is one of the best spurs to doing anything better. Athletes often train and swim in twos, because the results of the other athlete is just the motivation you need to improve and that is a cause to have a swimming partner.
  1. Technique is one of the most important aspects of swimming. The first is the all-important beginning of the swim, where you must find the right technique for entering the water. Then there is the actual swimming itself. Power of the legs is where swimming faster originates. Even before entering the water exercise your legs and stretch yourself at the side of the swimming baths before each swim.
  • Strong legs are the key to swimming faster and longer because they are the powerhouse of the human body when it comes to the water. Short sharp leg strokes are not as effective in swimming faster as opposed to controlled, longer strokes.
  1. Make sure swimming is something you love to do. Once it becomes a passion, improvement will come naturally to anyone. Do not make it a chore, it doesn’t work and you will give up in no time.

These are just some of the ways you can learn swimming faster and longer. There are other ways to swimming faster and longer and one is to join a swimming program like the British Swim School Seattle Swim Team where you get hints and tips to improve your overall time, stamina and distance.
