Infant & Toddler Swimming Lessons in the Hudson Waterfront: The Earlier The Better

British Swim School of Hudson Waterfront is the perfect place for families with infants and toddlers to begin learning how to swim. For many, the water can be scary. Our swim classes introduce infants and toddlers to the water for the very first time through a structured program of songs, games, and fun to help to reduce fear and make learning fun! In addition to building a strong parent-child bond—and unlike many of the “traditional” swim schools in the Hudson Waterfront—our infant and toddler swim lessons emphasize the critical survival skills that all children should learn. Even our youngest students participate in Survival Week where we get to specifically teach parents about water safety and how to be safe in water environments with their children.

Some of the skills we teach in our infant and toddler swimming lessons in the Hudson Waterfront include:

  • Water acclimation
  • Full gentle submersion
  • Assisted (or independent) back float
  • Jump in, rollover and float independently
  • Independence from parent(s)

Once your infant or toddler has mastered the skills taught in our water acclimation program, they’ll graduate to our water survival program!

Parental Involvement: Essential for Progression

Parents and guardians play an essential role in infant and toddler classes and must stay involved in the learning process until young children are skilled enough to swim independently. They should be prepared to engage in the class and learn how to interact with children in the water in a safe manner. This may seem like a simple concept, but many parents underestimate the impact of their attitude on the child's attitude and willingness to participate in classes. Parents also play a critical role by assisting the instructors in communication. No one knows a child better than their parent, especially when children cannot speak for themselves yet!

Don’t Wait: Enroll in Infant & Toddler Swimming Lessons Today!

Children are safer when they begin learning lifesaving water safety and survival techniques early. At British Swim School of Hudson Waterfront, children can begin learning how to swim as early as 3 months old! While we recognize that children develop at different rates, children are safest when they begin to develop independence in the water by 3 years of age.

We offer infant & toddler swimming lessons at multiple locations throughout the Hudson Waterfront. Our pools welcome families from Jersey City, Hoboken, Bayonne, Secaucus, Weehawken, and the surrounding communities!
