What’s So Special About British Swim School?

There are lots of reasons why we believe British Swim School is the best choice for you and your child, from the quality of our teachers to the focus on fun in our classes. More importantly, though, is what we hear from our students and their parents every day — how our small classes, warm water pools and our focus on water survival skills make us their first choice.

A focus on water survival skills
British Swim School puts water survival skills first, which is so important, when you consider that drowning is the leading cause of death in children under five. In fact, the School first began as a program to teach water safety to infants, beginning at three months old, to help prevent these tragedies.

We see water survival as a skill – not a sport or activity. We align ourselves with Stop Drowning Now and Pool Safely, which both share our mission to protect every life from drowning through education and water safety awareness.

When you register with British Swim School, you’ll quickly discover that the back float takes centre stage. That’s because it is considered the most important water survival skill – allowing swimmers to rest, breathe and call for help, alleviating the “silent” danger of floating face down.

Warm water
Whether you’re looking for swim lessons for yourself, your child or your infant, swimming in warm water is more welcoming and gentle for everyone.
Warm water alleviates one of the biggest barriers for many to learn to swim – the cold. For infants and toddlers, and even older children, entering warm water creates an immediate positive association with swimming, so British Swim School works exclusively out of warm-water, indoor pools.

Small classes
To guarantee the best learning experience for you or your child, our learn-to-swim lessons are offered in small classes, with a maximum of four students per instructor. In this way, we ensure that you, your child, your infant – all swim students – get the personalized attention they need.

Unique and highly effective teaching methods
CEO Rita Goldberg, a former national swimmer in the UK, founded British Swim School in 1981 and developed the unique and highly effective teaching methods that are a recognized trademark of the brand. Goldberg’s methodology has evolved over the years, but began by teaching water safety survival skills to children as young as three months old. Today, British Swim School offers the premier water survival and learn to swim program.
