With pools in nearly every subdivision and backyard, teaching children water safety is as important in the Johns Creek area as anywhere else in the country.   1. Learn essential CPR and first aid skills.<\/strong>
    \nWhen accidents happen, every second counts. That\u2019s why it\u2019s so critical that anyone supervising your child in the water knows CPR, first aid, and the signs of drowning and secondary drowning.<\/li>\n
  2. Be prepared for emergencies.<\/strong>
    \nEmergencies happen when they\u2019re not expected. Have a phone close by to call 911, as well as a safety ring with a rope attached.<\/li>\n
  3. Eliminate distractions when you are supervising children in the water.<\/strong>
    \nShifting your focus to a cell phone, book, laptop, or conversation for just a minute can have dangerous consequences. Minimize distractions, and if you must take a call, announce a \u201csafety break\u201d so kids can exit the pool until your attention can be undivided.<\/li>\n
  4. Childproof your pool.<\/strong>
    \nFor the safety of your own children, as well as children of neighbors and guests, install a pool alarm and four-sided safety gate with self-latching and self-closing gates.<\/li>\n
  5. Sign your child up for swimming lessons that emphasize water safety.<\/strong>
