We teach students as young as 3 months old. If enrolling a child between 3 and 18 months of age, we recommend starting in our Tadpole level.
Initially we teach our students to be water-safe. This includes learning to fall in the water, roll over, surface on their backs, and float independently for 20 seconds. Therefore, your child will start in Minnow and move up to Turtle 1 once they demonstrate these skills.
Children learn through repetition. Repeating motions within our structured class setting will teach muscle memory. Group classes are also key in teaching young children, who typically repeat what they see other children do – swimming, floating and having fun!
Yes! Following the Minnow class, classes are divided into levels breaking down the skills of swimming strokes. Children first learn to swim the length of the pool on their front and back, then strokes will be introduced, then speed and stamina. Once Shark 2 is completed, children have the skills required to join our swim team.
Yes. Our policies require that all students under age two, as well as any children 2 or older who are not completely toilet trained, wear both a disposable swim diaper and a reusable swim diaper. This ensures the health and safety of all students and instructors should there be an accident.
The back float is the ultimate survival skill. A child floating on their back is able to breathe and call for help. As students advance, this skill is also necessary if they get tired while swimming. Some bodies of water do not have an edge to swim to, or the edge is not easily accessible. Back floating is the best way to ensure safety.
Only Tadpole and Swimboree classes are “Parent and Me” classes, with one parent or guardian in the water; all other classes are without parent participation. For Tadpole and Swimboree: You do not need to know how to swim, the classes are held in shallow water. There is also no head submersion for the parent required. For Seahorse classes, parents are required to be poolside with their child during class.
Our classes are all 30 minutes and very efficient and effective. Even while your child is on the side of the pool, they are watching other students. Usually, there are multiple classes in the water and they are able to watch more advanced classes. Seeing others do what they are learning is an excellent teaching tool. Our instructors interact with all students in a methodical manner and there is no wasted time during class.
It’s just fine! All British Swim School instructors teach the same method and it is important for your child to be able to swim with more than one person. Our instructors work closely with one another and will communicate anything beneficial to your child’s progress.
Yes, practicing at home will help tremendously! If you have a pool at home, you should practice as much as possible. If you do not have a pool, many skills can be practiced in the bathtub.

If a student misses a lesson for any reason they are eligible for one make-up lesson per calendar month. Students enrolled in multiple lessons per week are eligible for two make-up lessons per month. These make-ups will be without additional charge if the absence was called or emailed in at least 60 minutes in advance. If notice was less than one hour or if it was an unannounced no-show, a $10 rescheduling fee applies to eligible allowed make-up in a given month. In addition, scheduled make-ups in excess of one per month will incur a $10 administrative fee.

Make-ups must be scheduled in advance over the phone (610-607-4420) during regular weekday business hours. No stand-by or walk-in make-ups are allowed. Make-up classes can be reserved up to one week in advance and expire two months after the missed class if they have not been used. Make-ups cannot be guaranteed to be available on the same day of the week as the missed class, and we cannot guarantee the same instructor. Make-ups are not transferable, conditional to availability, have no monetary value and are limited to students who are actively enrolled in our swim school. All unused make-ups expire on the day of the last paid class as make-ups cannot be used to extend enrollment after the last paid class. There are no make-ups for missed make-ups. Make-ups cannot be used as payment for regular classes

In the case of classes cancelled by British Swim School due to pool closure, etc., a make-up class will be offered. There will be no fee for this make-up. We cannot guarantee a specific instructor for your make-up class and once they are scheduled they cannot be re-scheduled again.
In the case of inclement weather, we will monitor the situation closely and communicate our decision to open or close via Facebook and email. If we decide to close, a make-up class will be offered. If we are open and a student misses a class, the above make-up policy applies.
You will not be charged for any national holidays when British Swim School is closed. Make-ups will not be scheduled for these days.

We charge by class and you always pay the calendar month in advance. Upon enrollment, we will count how many classes there are left in the calendar month, and charge your credit card for those classes. For example, if you enroll in the middle of the month and there are two weeks left, we will charge you for two classes. Special note: If you enroll after the 20th of the month, we will also include all of next month’s fees. Upon enrollment, we also include our annual membership fee. We will need your credit card on file so we can charge you around the 20th of each month for the next month’s fees – until you cancel. For instance, on February 20 we charge for all of March. On March 20, we charge for all of April and so on. We will calculate the exact amount each month, based on the number of days that you are enrolled and the number of weeks the month has. Some months have 5 weeks – this is the reason why your charge might vary from month to month. We will not charge for major holidays when our school is closed.
You are never committed for more than 30 days after your initial two-month commitment. If you wish to withdraw from your lessons, please provide us with 30 days written notice. This can be done by email to [email protected] We will contact you within 48 hours to confirm receipt of your request. Your last class does not have to be at the end of a calendar month – if you cancel mid-month, your membership will end 30 days later in the middle of the following month. We will adjust the last credit card charge accordingly to reflect the cancellation.
