At British Swim School, we strongly believe that the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students should never be overshadowed. While carrying out our mission of spreading water safety awareness and teaching strong swim skills, we focus on cultivating a safe and supportive environment for children to learn and grow. In the best interest of those who participate in our aquatic program as well as being committed to the Safe Sport Act, British Swim School is proud to share more on the details of our partnership with the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
About the U.S. Center for SafeSport
The U.S. Center for SafeSport is an independent, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization established in March 2017 in the wake of several high-profile abuse cases. The Center is the only organization in the country congressionally mandated to respond to and prevent emotional, physical, and sexual misconduct and abuse in the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement. The Center is also an educational resource for sports organizations at all levels, from grassroots amateur sports organizations to professional leagues.
The Center educates coaches, athletes, and others involved in sport to prevent abuse, recognize signs of grooming, understand appropriate boundaries, and report. The Center believes prevention, education, and training are critical to culture change.
Our Commitment in Action
Our immovable commitment to the Safe Sport Act ensures that we carry out our mantra of “Survival of the Littlest” through all realms of our organization, ensuring that the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students is never compromised. The Safe Sport Act requires mandatory background checks of employees, reporting of suspicions of child abuse, prevention training, and prevention policies for every British Swim School location across the United States and Canada. Because we have this mandated for each British Swim School location, parents can trust their child will be safe at any of our 200+ pool locations.
The best-in-class training course is tailored to address sexual misconduct, abuse awareness, and prevention methods in sports environments. Its in-depth online modules specifically cover mandatory reporting of misconduct, sexual misconduct awareness education, and emotional and physical misconduct.
This training course offers all British Swim School employees’ reassurance, confidence, awareness, and a sense of teamwork in the context of unexpected or rare circumstances. While given the tangible tools they need to handle these situations, our team is empowered to identify a problem, speak up about it, and feel reassured and supported by other staff members when they do so.
British Swim School promises to provide a safe, inclusive, and anti-bullying culture for our students and young athletes, and our partnership with the U.S. Center for SafeSport further ensures that every swimmer is safe and supported as they learn.
